Scott Fowler
An evening for literacy at Gaston Country Club! Cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and an onstage conversation with two-time National Magazine Award winner Tom Junod, interviewed by Charlotte Observer columnist Scott Fowler. Wednesday, October 14, 6–8:30 PM.
Join the Gaston Literacy Council for an evening of good food and a great story well told. Tom Junod is a two-time National Magazine Award winner and a senior writer at ESPN. He wrote the Esquire profile of Fred Rogers that inspired the Tom Hanks film “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” and “The Falling Man,” the landmark essay about September 11th. Scott Fowler, the longtime Charlotte Observer sports columnist, will interview him on stage. The night begins with a cocktail/hors d’oeuvres hour at 6:00, a welcome at 6:45, the conversation at 7:00, and a book signing with Tom and Scott to close at 8:15.Every ticket supports our Reading Soul Mates program, pairing volunteers with local second-graders who need a reading partner, and our Adult Literacy and ESL programs, where neighbors learn to read a lease, pass a citizenship test, or help a child with homework.
